I-TEAM: State complaint about roundabout delays draws Toledo Edison to make changes
LUCAS CO., Ohio (WTVG) - Toledo Edison is making changes after the company was called out for delaying major construction projects in Lucas County.
13 Action News has been tracking a complaint the Lucas County Engineer made to state officials that said Toledo Edison’s slow timelines have jeopardized funding and will disrupt a local school.
Lucas County Engineer Mike Pniewski said not one of the five roundabouts on his office’s construction list started on time. Crews could not break ground until power poles and utilities were moved from the right-of-way.

Commissioners approve community projects, airport grant
The Scioto County Commissioners approved funding agreements for community development projects, infrastructure improvements and airport enhancements Thursday while also outlining plans to restructure leadership at the county dog shelter during their regular meeting.
Among the actions approved was a notice to proceed and contract agreement with JCO Concrete for the Village of New Boston Community Center and Safety Building concrete replacement project. The $78,000 project is funded through the county’s Community Development Block Grant community revitalization program and is scheduled for completion by Aug. 31.
Commissioners also awarded a $103,717.60 contract for the county engineer’s fiscal year 2027 pavement marking project. The work is supported by a $150,000 Highway Safety Improvement Program pavement marking grant through the County Engineers Association of Ohio.

No road salt bids yet for city of Ashland, or the county ahead of winter
ASHLAND — The city’s winter road salt supply impacts more than just Ashland roadway conditions.
Its stockpile helps combat slippery road conditions throughout the city. But in recent years, according to Mayor Matt Miller, the city has also used its road salt on the campuses of Ashland University and University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center.
“It’s important we get an adequate amount,” Miller said July 31.
The city handles its own road salt contracts separate from Ashland County — although the city and county have assisted one another in past years when one or the other’s supply has depleted, he said.

Proposed traffic light removal, replacements in Trumbull County
TRUMBULL COUNTY - Twelve intersections across Trumbull County could have traffic signals replaced or removed following a proposal from Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
The intersections included in the proposal include traffic signals across Howland, Bazetta, Warren and Weathersfield Townships.
This comes after the stoplight at Salt Springs Road and the Petro Travel Center entrance was deemed unwarranted, with removal set for Summer 2027.
The traffic light will be placed in flash mode in 30 days while officials determine how it will function before its removal, according to a release.

Washington County officials collaborate on disaster relief and seek state assistance for tornado damage
MARIETTA – Washington County Emergency Management Director Richard Hays confirmed two tornadoes touched down in the Newport area, starting around Ohio 26, on Tuesday.
During the regular Washington County Commission meeting Thursday morning, multiple county entities debriefed on the damages, cleanup and maintenance process, and potential disaster relief from the state.
